Introduction and history
The Modern Baju Kurung/ Kebaya was first introduced around the 1960s. The blouse cutting is simple, no pesak (armpit lining) and kekek (side lining), as well as the hemline is shorter down to the hip only. This modern cut blouse is beautified with embroideries and decorated with sequins and the like.
The attire’s sarong is also with modernised cut. Normally, either the fold is readily arranged at the side, in ‘parted’ or ‘boxes fold’ style at the back part, or with an ‘A-line’ cut only.
Both these attires are getting favoured by the younger women for function or office wear.
