Introduction and history

The Kedayan tribe, also known as Kadayan, Kadaian or Kadyan, are found in the whole of Borneo Island. In Sarawak this tribe is a minority and concentrated in the districts of Limbang, Lawas, Miri, Sibuti and Bintulu.

The name Kedayan is believed to have originated from the verbal language of the tribe itself. ‘Kadang Kadayan’ means ‘followers of the royalty’.

Their traditional costume is made from a cloth named Kain Siabun in white, grey and black colours.
