Introduction and history

Mentarang, scientifically known as Pholas Orientalis, is a species of shellfish that lives in muddy areas along the shores of Kuala Perlis. This creature has a thin shell and typically prefers water with lower temperatures. Mentarang is found only in muddy coastal areas. In Malaysia, another popular location for mentarang is Sabak Beach, Selangor.

Method / Preparation Method / Presentation Method

1. The technique for collecting mentarang involves inserting the feet into the muddy bottom. 

2. The presence or position of the mentarang is felt when the feet touch its shell.

3. The person collecting the mentarang then needs to dive to the bottom to collect it and place it into the container they are carrying.
