Introduction and history
Back then, Gendang Perlis (Perlis drumming) was played at weddings or large scale events. According to history, this drumming was performed during bull fights in the reigns of Tuanku Raja Syed Syafii (1897-1905) and Tuanku Raja Syed Alwi (1905-1943).
Gendang Perlis is still played at large royal events. At present, this drumming is no longer used in bull fights, but to accompany silat performances.
Gendang Perlis Musical Instruments
Two drummers, where each beats the main and smaller drums using curved sticks. The drum is smaller than the drum used for silat (martial arts) performances. Nowadays, gendang perlis shows have included flutes to accompany the drumsbeats
