Introduction and history

The Layang Mas dance belongs to the category of palace dances. According to history, this dance was created when the Raja of Perlis sent a tribute of golden flowers (bunga emas) to the Siamese kingdom during the period when Perlis was under Siam's rule. The tribute was delivered using elephants. During this journey, an elephant herder named Tuk Jambul and his companion Ecan composed the song Layang Mas. Upon their return from Siam, the two herders created the Layang Mas dance.
