The main instruments in this performance are 24 shigu drums, also known as lion dance drums, with some performances also using longgu drums. The drums are placed on four-legged wooden stands. Both large drums are almost identical and shaped like barrels. These drums have a single surface made of buffalo or cowhide, which is nailed to the wooden frame with iron nails. The drum surface is struck with two wooden mallets.
