Penang Halwa Maskat

Halwa Maskat is a type of dessert or traditional sweet made from a mixture of wheat flour, ghee, and sugar as the
main ingredients. This dessert is said to be often served as a special dish
during Ramadan and festive seasons such as Hari Raya Aidil Fitri. Making Halwa
Maskat takes quite a long time and some careful methods and techniques are
required to make this dessert of high quality. Halwa Maskat has a slightly
sweet and fatty taste as a result of the sugar and ghee used in this sweet
recipe. The wheat flour used needs to be kneaded first and 'washed' to remove flour gum or in scientific language 'gluten'. The process of washing
flour is intended to produce flour starch and remove flour gum. Next, the flour
water that was washed earlier will be marinated and the water needs to be
changed every 6 hours for 3 days until the water is really crystal clear and the starch
deposits are clean white.
