ROPE PULLING

Migazat Dukug or 'rope pulling' is often held after the paddy harvesting season in Sabah. It is a popular traditional game in most folk sports events.
The competition commonly involves two teams that consist of five or more participants who firmly hold a piece of rope in opposite positions. In the middle between the two competing teams there is a line that becomes the determiner of the loser or winner of the game. The team that successfully pulls the opposing team past the line is deemed as the winner.
Once in the past a jar filled with 'tapai' or fermented rice was made as the prize by the local community, and the winners had to finish drinking the 'tapai' inside the jar at that very moment itself.
