BLOW PIPING

BLOW PIPING

Monopuk or Menyumpit or "blow piping" is an activity of the Murut ethnic in Sabah's interior for hunting or going for war. Sosopuk or the blow pipe is 5-7 feet long, cylindrical in shape, is made of hard wood and a hole punched in the centre. The amok or ramok that is the bullet measuring 12-16cm is from the polod or bamboo fruits.

The fruit is scraped until the thickness becomes 0.3mm and its end sharpened. The sharpened fruit is smeared with poison known as peliu obtained from a type of wood with rubber discharge. The rubber is glued on the bamboo, tied and basked until it dries. Peliu is stored in a special container called karaban measuring 8 inches and made from bamboo.
