THE CULTURE AND CUSTOM OF THE SULUK ETHNIC THE MARRIAGE CUSTOM

THE SULUK ETHNIC THE MARRIAGE CUSTOM
There are five tiers in the marriage custom of
this ethnicity, that are Pag-pasihil (receiving and enquiring), Pag-pangasawa
(proposing), Pag-turul taima (handing over the marriage dowry), Pag-tiaun
(the wedding ceremony), and Tingkuwang (the ceremony on the groom side).
In this ethnic culture, there are many customs
and procedures for moral principles that are still practiced. It is normal that
the sukat ungsud (request for marriage dowry) custom by the girl side is
really high in amount, especially for the respected. For those who have finished
reading the Quran, they request for dowries such as gold, animals such as cow or
caribou, the bugas rice, cigars, and a miniature palace or house craft
decorated with traditional foods. However, all these depend on the agreement
between both the man and girl parties.
