THE CULTURE AND CUSTOM OF THE MALAY COMMUNITIES: THE CUSTOM AND SELF PREPARATION FOR DESCENDING TO THE SEA

INTRODUCTION

A seafarer is forbidden to be boastful while at home. He has to descend to the sea before sunrise and can make a turn for home once he has stepped out. It is believed that ill fate will fall on him if he contravenes these customs.

He has to prepare himself mentally and physically too before going to the sea. After the early morning prayer, he has to request from Allah to be guarded against disaster and calamities. All equipments need to be ready and he has to ensure that he does not breach any of the associated customs.
