THE CUSTOM OF VISITING IN GROUPS

The Javanese still practice a high level of family hood and socialism. The culture of visiting in groups known as Baraan is still practiced especially when celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri. During this Baraan event together they seek forgiveness and praising Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), apart from satisfying their palettes with the varieties of cuisines. Among the popular menus of the Javanese on Hari Raya morning is the ketupat, chicken rendang, chicken pecal, coconut serunding, fried fermented soya bean, fried petai sambal, and gado-gado or mixed vegetable in peanut sauce.
